PROGRAM NOTE

As part of Carnegie Hall’s education program, I worked with Academy members Brad Balliett, Evan Premo, and Greg DeTurck and the kids of the Grandfamilies Apartments in the South Bronx to gather together all of our music and story ideas into a new musical composition for eventual performance by New York’s Metropolis Ensemble, with Balliett, Premo, and DeTurck as soloists. The children of the Grandfamilies Apartments all live with their grandparents in one big community, and they have a special perspective on the idea of family.
